Demystifying Tax Fundamentals for Fundraisers

Tax rules and financial jargon can create a barrier when you're trying to build strong relationships with donors. But understanding the essentials doesn't require a graduate degree in taxation – just a clear, practical line of sight into how tax incentives can encourage giving decisions.

On August 20 the Utah Planned Giving Roundtable welcomes planned giving veteran Craig C. Wruck to help us cut through the noise and focus on what fundraisers actually need to know in order to have productive conversations with donors. He will explain the real impact of the tax system, explore ways to talk donors through the tax incentives without getting bogged down in legal speak, and highlight where the tax incentives lie and how recent changes have shifted the way we talk about gifts. Craig is renowned for clear, understandable explanations you can use in donor conversations the very next day. And we'll also leave plenty of time for an open Q&A.

Bio

Craig Wruck has dedicated more than four decades to charitable gift planning, making an impact at institutions, including the University of Minnesota, California State University, and The Saint Paul Community Foundation. He is past president of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners and has been honored with multiple awards, including the Distinguished Service Award from The National Committee on Planned Giving in 2002. He is the author of Planned Giving in a Nutshell, a practical guide for development generalists.

Craig earned his bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Utah and his MBA from the University of St. Thomas.
